ANDOVER College has had a makeover thanks to college students.

The music department’s recording studio at Andover College has been expertly renovated with the help of music, construction and carpentry students.

Led by their teachers, the students settled in the fireplace and insulated the library to make it a vocal booth, perfect for recording vocals. They installed a sound-absorbing floating floor system to ensure that the rooms below are still usable for teaching while recording, as well as carpeting in the room and floors ready for music technology students, such as Ruben Tomlinson-Sylvest, Jack Winter, Harrison Escudier and Jasmine. Alhermi for laying acoustic tiles.

It transformed the space, with acoustics ready to produce professional multitrack recordings for a range of instruments.

Level 2 masonry student Kelly Gillan worked alongside lecturer Dean Carpenter to masonry an existing doorway connecting to the adjoining control room, which is also being renovated to complement the acoustics of the concert hall. Level 2 carpentry students Jake Sandford, Jack Smallbones and Daniel Chilton worked alongside their major studies to complete all carpentry work on the floor system and recording booth.

With the facility close at hand, students make full use of the studio, both during class and in their free time. The results will be shared on the college’s social media and other platforms, as students and faculty are immensely proud of their successes.

Andover College has two recording studios capable of recording up to sixteen simultaneous audio tracks, a Mac multimedia suite including standard Logic Pro X recording software, three rehearsal rooms and a professional theater for dramatic and musical productions.
