Sony Music Entertainment Premium Content and Trafalgar Releasing on Thursday released the official full trailer for a-ha’s upcoming film, “True North,” the accompaniment to their new studio album of the same title. “True North” will be released in select theaters worldwide on Thursday, September 15, followed by the album on Friday, October 21. A press release noted: “The original idea for ‘True North’ was for the Norwegian trio, formed by Morten Harket, Paul Waaktaar-Savoy and Magne Furuholmen, to record their first session in the marvelous studio just 90 km away. above the Arctic Circle and then to film it. Eventually, the project turned into more than one production, and they were joined by the talented Norwegian orchestra Arctic Philharmonic. What emerged from these sessions is a beautiful album, and accompanying film, which details the band’s vision of a collective connection to the environment.

“‘True North’ is an a-ha letter, from the Arctic Circle, a poem from the far north of Norway,” Furuholmen said.

The press release continued, “In recurring vignettes, the multi-dimensional film ‘True North’ follows this story arc through actors portraying life in the north and documenting the band recording music over two days in Bodø, Norway. . This is a unique release from a-ha that embodies the spirit of their new songs, with longtime a-ha collaborator Stian Andersen at the helm as producer.

He said, “It was an honorable mission to make the movie ‘True North’. It was also a great pleasure to write and create the narrative to match the beautiful a-ha songs in this movie.”

Since their worldwide breakthrough with “Take On Me” in 1985, a-ha has continued to adapt and evolve. Now, with what is both their 11th studio album and the documentation of its creation, a-ha has entered a new phase.

“First we came up with the idea of recording a live studio session,” Waaktaar-Savoy said. “Then, to film a session in the studio. This turned into a production with the Norwegian orchestra, the Arctic Philharmonic, with whom we collaborated.

The press release read, “’True North’ is the most revealing, personal and moving band. Never before has the spirit of a-ha been so exposed.

“True North” is produced by Aparent in collaboration with Sony Music Germany, Bodø2024 and Aker Horizons, and distributed by Sony Music Entertainment’s Premium Content division. The film is theatrically distributed worldwide by Trafalgar Releasing.
