Sony Music Entertainment has signed a multi-year partnership with RenÃ© PÃ©rez Joglar, also known as Latin rapper and producer Residente, to launch 1868 Studios. As part of this new agreement, Residente and Sony Music Latin / Iberia will create, produce and distribute original content globally focused on the authentic portrayal of cultural narratives, including Latinx stories in front and behind the camera.
Residente will lead the charge regarding the creative aspects of the partnership. He will write and direct inclusive TV shows, films and other on-screen content that will be distributed across multiple platforms. 1868 Studios pledges that Residente will work with an international creative consortium of writers, directors, screen talent, musical artists and visual artists to provide creative services for a strong roster of new projects . Sony Music Entertainment will bring its expertise in content creation, marketing and monetization to enhance the scale and scope of the studio’s work.

Residente went down in history as one of the most Grammy Award-winning artists as a member of the Calle 13 group and as a solo artist. He attended Savannah College of Art and Design which helped fuel his passion for cinematography which he incorporated into his musical career. Her work has earned the respect of fellow industry colleagues through her approach to award-winning music videos and feature films, including her own documentary titled Resident who tells about his journey to make his first solo album. He has been recognized for his contributions to numerous causes and philanthropic organizations and is an Amnesty International Ambassador and received the Recognition Award at the 2015 World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates.
