The Watford Borough Council’s Big JiveSwing Festival returns to the Cassiobury Park Bandstand on Sunday, July 28, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Watford Historic Landmark will host some of the best internationally renowned jazz musicians, bands and dancers during the afternoon extravaganza. There will be live cabarets, dance lessons for children and adults, professional dance exhibits, a vintage photo booth and more, all for free.
Watford Mayor-elect Peter Taylor said: “It’s great to be able to host our Big Jive Swing Festival for another year. I’m really happy that despite cuts to our government funding, we are able to host events like these free of charge for local residents. Bring your family and friends and make the most of this fantastic music festival!
Bands that perform include the Mississippi Swing Band, the Pete Long Swing Band, the Jive Aces, and the Colin Bray Swing Band.
Big Bandstand – part of Watford Borough Council’s Big Events program – will host live bands, performing for free, every Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. until September.

Over the weekend of Saturday July 27 and Sunday July 28, the British Firefighter Challenge also takes place on Watford High Street and near The Parade. This annual sporting event, first held in Watford, will see more than 250 firefighters from 16 countries pushed to their limits as they battle each other in grueling tasks. Come with your family and friends and watch, and help raise money for the firefighters charity. Children can even participate in mini-games.
